    Many of Susan and Stuart Danks’ happiest and most fulfilling moments have been on safari. So they formed Simply Africa to share their knowledge, experience and love of African travel with others. They avoid ‘cookie cutter ‘packages and arrange the finest safaris individually for each client. They have an office in Switzerland and Victoria Falls, where they built their home, and have travelled extensively in Southern and East Africa. At last count they had visited close to 200 lodges. The stork on their logo represents their many migrations between Europe and Africa.

    Zimbabwean born, Stuart undertook the most rigorous training in the safari industry to qualify as a Zimbabwean Professional Safari Guide. He has taken many guests on fascinating photographic safaris. He is a keen amateur photographer and has taken most of the images on this site. His extensive knowledge of wildlife, flora, history, art and geography, and open, easy-going manner make a lasting impression. Guests have become firm friends, and most of our clients have travelled with us more than once..

    Susan is Zimbabwean born. Her Swiss-born parents first took her camping in Mana Pools National Game Park when she was six months old. She shares Stuart’s passion for travel and wildlife, especially in Africa’s most remote wilderness areas. She is a qualified Professional Tour Guide and a trainer in tourism.

    Charles Brightman, VFAPU, shows us poachers' snares

    Snares are used in both subsistence and commercial poaching. VFAPU collected 590 snares in 2022, saving many animals from a cruel death.

    The Bhejane Trust assists Zimbabwe National Parks in installing and maintaining solar pumps in the Zambezi National Park and Hwange so as to keep the otherwise seasonal pans filled year round.

    VFAPU assists Zimbabwe National Parks protect the wildlife and habitat of the Victoria Falls area from poacher pressure. National Parks also protect people from poverty but providing employment.

    Hwange is a ‘dry’ park and, as due to man’s enrichment on their space, the animals cannot move to find water, as they would in former times. So keeping the seasonal pans filled year round is essential to their survival.

    Rhinos are an endangered species and their protection from poaching in the Matobo Hills of Zimbabwe is essential part of the work of the Matobo Conservation Society.

  • Dr Moyo, Vets for animals Welfare Zimbabwe, treats animals attacked by lions, hyenas and baboons

    VAWZ helps rural communities co-existing with wildlife by providing free veterinary treatment that these animals would not receive otherwise. This pregnant donkey lost her two companions to lions, but was successfully treated and delivered a healthy little foal two weeks later.

  • VAWZ Victoria Falls rural sterilisation and vaccination campaign

    VAWZ rural vaccination campaigns help prevent zoonotic diseases, such as deadly rabies, spread back and forth between wildlife and domestic animals. An entire endangered Painted Hunting Dog pack was wiped out by rabies in the Hwange area.

    Friends of Hwange works to conserve all wild fauna and flora in Hwange. The main focus is on water provisioning for the wildlife. Here we show one of the many solar pumps they have installed to fill a vital pan.

    “We need to look after the little things to protect the big things”, says Stuart. Dung beetles are essential to fertilise the sandy Kalahari soils, enabling healthy plant growth and feeding the animals.
