Where to go in Zambia - forests & falls, rivers and floodplains

  • Lower Zambezi National Park

    Lower Zambezi National Park

This lovely park is on the banks of the great Zambezi River - downstream from Kariba and the Victoria Falls. The Zambezi is the fourth longest river in Africa. It flows 2700 Km from its source, as a tiny, highland forest spring, through four countries, to its wide delta mouth into the Indian Ocean. It has more game parks along its length than any other river. Wildlife is abundant, the riverine trees enormous, as are the crocodiles!

Apart from games drives, a canoe trip on the Lower Zambezi is the experience of a lifetime!

  • Kafue Game Park

    Kafue Game Park

Bigger than Wales, this is one of the largest game Parks in Africa. Northern Kafue is a fascinating combination of woodland, open plains, riverine thickets, tree islands, and seasonally indundated flood plains.

This is ‘the secret Okavango’ and, when water levels are right, you can explore the myriad channels in a motorised boat, or in a Mokoro - a traditional dug-out canoe.

  • Luangwa Game Park

    Luangwa Game Park

The Luangwa River, running through a low lying valley, has an abundance of hippos and crocodiles, and the surrounding hills support plentiful game. Luangwa is known as the home of the original walking safari.

Exciting bush walks - lasting from a few hours to a few days - can be arranged. Game drives are very productive, with night drives being a speciality of this area, Leopards are seen often on these drives. Canoe trips, observing waterbirds and other wildlife on the banks, are another wonderful experience.

  • The Victoria Falls

Shared with Zimbabwe, the Victoria Falls are one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World and designated a World Heritage Site. For some months of the year you will need to go over to Zimbabwe to view the Falls as the Zambian side is dry.
