Tanzania is the land of the ‘Lion King’.

Where to go in Tanzania - savannah, mountains and craters, lakes, rivers and sea

  • Ngorongoro Conservation Area

The world-renowned Ngorongoro Crater is the focal point of the NCA. This is the world’s largest inactive volcanic caldera. Viewpoints at the top of the crater offer breath taking views of the 20 kilometer wide crater floor and its forests and lakes. Apart from its wildlife and cultural riches, the NCA is also of great archaeological importance. Remains of some of mankind's earliest ancestors were discovered in Olduavi Gorge.

Take the steep road down into the crater to view the large numbers of animals that reside there, including black rhino, and predators, such as lions and hyenas. Outside the caldera, guests have the unique experience of seeing Masai herdsmen grazing their cattle side by side with wildlife.

Contact us to know where to stay for the easiest access as there are no lodges actually in the crater and a limited number of visitors are allowed in each day.

  • Serengeti Leopard

    Serengeti National Park

The name 'Serengeti' means an 'extended place' in the local Masai language. This is probably the most iconic park in Africa. It’s huge grassland plains feed two million wildebeest, half a million zebra and a quarter of a million Thompson’s gazelle - the biggest numbers found on the planet. The wildebeest and zebra form the star cast of a unique annual spectacular - the Great Migration.

Take game drives over the grass plains, dotted with flat topped Acacias and Kopjes (rocky outcrops), just as depicted in ‘The Lion King’. This is where you get to see the well documented river crossings of the Mara and Grumeti Rivers. Huge Nile crocodiles lurk in the water to ambush their prey, hungry lions and other predators prowl on the banks, waiting vultures circle above.

Contact us to know where to be, at the right time, and away from the crowds in this busy park.

  • Taringire National Park

This park, with its signature Baobab trees and flat topped Acacias, reminiscent of the film ‘Out of Africa’, is a gem on the northern Tanzania safari circuit. The Tarangire River flows through its entire length, providing life giving water to the wildlife.

Teeming with wildlife, especially in the dry season, game drives will enable you to see the park’s many elephants, famous tree climbing lions, and giant anthills.

Contact us to know which time is best to visit as animals migrate in and out of this park to Lake Manyara NP.

  • Lake Manyara

Lake Manyara National Park’s varied landscapes - the Rift Valley soda lake, swamps and open grasslands, dense woodlands and steep mountainsides - provide a unique wilderness experience. The lake attracts fascinating birdlife, including large flocks of pink flamingos, and is filled with hippo. Mahogany and sausage trees are alive with blue and vervet monkeys, elephants feed on fallen fruit, and bushbuck, baboons and leopard make their homes in the forest.

Visit the lake for the waterbirds. For a different experience, soak in the warm, clear water, under the shade of leafy trees, in the a beautiful ‘Maji Moto’ geothermal spring. On a clear day you will have exceptional views of Mount Kilimanjaro and its peaks.

  • Zanzibar

Just off the Tanzanian coast, Zanzibar is an island steeped in culture and history. It is known as the ‘Spice Island’ due to the delicious variety of spices grown on it’s many plantations. Stone Town, a World Heritage Site, boasts a labyrinth of winding alleys, bustling marketplaces, beautifully carved wooden doors, breathtaking mosques and grand Arab residences. The beaches are beautiful – long stretches of fine white sands. Besides the two large islands - Pemba and Unguja – there are several smaller ones, such as Mafia and Chumbe. Zanzibar is large, bustling and busy, Pemba and Mafia are smaller and quieter. Mnemba Island is an idyllic private island featuring luxurious accommodation, breathtaking scenery and rich marine diversity.

There is much to do here when you are not relaxing on the beach. Visit Jozani Forest Reserve – home to the rare Kirk’s red colobus monkey and Aders’ duiker. Dive and snorkel. Swim with dolphins and turtles. (Choose a responsible operator.) Explore a spice farm. Learn about the slave trade on Prison Island. Parasail, horse ride, or take a long leisurely walk through Stone town or an a beach.
